The Leak, video performance, Warszawa/Łódź 2023
The video is a staged solo performance entitled 'The Leak', based on the experimental choreography of leather trousers - a characteristic element of queer fashion in the 1980s. The performer moves organically in a choreography that exorcises shame from the body. Both personal and collective shame and its history. The video installation includes two recordings with a one soundtrack. The recording showing the details of the costume is intended to be projected in the background. The recorded score is intended for the mobile phone screen. The audio space is filled with ASMR sounds of crumpled leather. The performance embodies the unnameable states of being between: shame and pleasure, soaking in and letting out the juices, the desire to go beyond the body versus the obsessive peering into its dark recesses. In the practice of scaling shame, I transform personal experiences into somatic explorations that, through body and costume, have allowed me to experience shame as a spectre that permeates time and beings of different genres. By reviving the afterimages of queer eroticism, I connect with the transformative power of sexuality, which for me is a nature-cultural element of monstrosity. The performance is a presentation of the materiality of the score - from black leather trousers to somatic tongue-working techniques. The skin as a surface of immanent relationality between inside and outside turns around the axis of shame-desire in an exorcism of ghosts. Ghosts of margins and edges emerge in the negotiation of the power of knowledge with sexuality, escaping the systemic framework.
